TAIBI SEES HIMSELF IN DE GEA
Monday, February 20th, 2012Former Manchester United goalkeeper Massimo Taibi said that he is seeing a lot of himself in current Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea. David de Gea arrived at Manchester United for £ 18 million from Atletico Madrid on the summer. He was expected to be the replacement for Dutchman Edwin van Der Sar, who had retired at the end of last season. However, David de Gea has been making a number of errors for Manchester United, which have called his future into questioning. Massimo Taibi is regarded to be one of the greatest failures during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
The Italian arrived at Manchester United for £ 4.5 million in 1999, but played only four matches before being sold in the next summer. Massimo Taibi has said that he is now seeing a lot of himself in the form of David de Gea, who has been subject to many criticisms during his first few months at Old Trafford. Massimo Taibi made one appearance for Manchester United against Chelsea, from which he never really recovered. He conceded five goals in that match, but Massimo Taibi has said that Sir Alex Ferguson did not provide him enough time to prove himself.
“In a sense I see a little of myself in De Gea, who initially had problems, but now he is being shown more confidence – something which I was not granted. As a result, he is now starting to prove his worth. Ferguson didn’t believe in me enough and gave me no time to prove my worth,” Massimo Taibi said when asked about the recent issues faced by David de Gea. In the absence of Lindegaard, who is currently injured, David de Gea is enjoying a spell in the first team and is hoping to establish himself as a first-team regular.
